“November 1900 Dorothy writes in her diary: “Last Monday was bonfire night, we had a bonfire between the tennis court and mangle room…”
Join us at Buda on Friday 22nd April for wine and cheese followed by a twilight tour with Kerry Anderson. As we enjoy dusk in the garden and view the township and Buda house under lights, we will consider what this beautiful piece of land would have been like pre and post the goldrush, and how it continues to flourish today. Words from Dorothy’s diary and Hilda’s recorded interviews will provide a fascinating insight into family life at Buda after dark. From family bonfires to world events such as the fire bell ringing to break the news of the relief of Mafeking and Armistice Day. Inside the house we will explore what pursuits the Leviny family enjoyed under the light of candle, gas and electricity and relive the horror of a young Hilda accidentally setting fire to the curtains!
