SUMMARY:High Tea with Rebecca Armitage
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the Garden Room at Buda  for a delicious High Tea with author and journalist\, Rebecca Armitage. \n\n\nRebecca will be chatting about her debut novel\, The Heir Apparent – a Reece Witherspoon Book Club Pick in the US – and her career as a writer\, journalist and TV Producer. \nBOOK\n   \n\n\nAbout the Book: \n\n\nLexi Villiers is a 29-year-old Englishwoman doing her medical residency in Hobart\, working too hard\, worried about her bank balance\, and living with friends. It’s a good life\, and getting even better\, because as the dawn is breaking on New Year’s Day\, Lexi is about to kiss the man she loves for the very first time. \n\n\nBut by midnight\, everything will change. Because Lexi is in fact not an ordinary young woman. She is Princess Alexandrina\, third in line to the British throne – albeit estranged from the rest of her family and living in voluntary exile on the other side of the world. But following a terrible accident\, Lexi – the black sheep of her family and\, until this moment\, always destined to be the spare – is now the heir apparent\, first in line to the throne once her grandmother\, the elderly Queen\, dies. Called back to do her duty\, she arrives in London to a Palace riven with power plays and media leaks\, all the while guarding painful secrets of her own. Palace waters are treacherous\, rumours are rife\, and selling each other’s secrets is a family tradition. And with the Crown just within her grasp\, Lexi must choose what bonds she will keep … and what she is willing to leave behind. \n\n\n‘This engrossing debut … is filled with secrets\, scandals\, and a few unexpected twists\, including a forbidden and beautiful love story. Armitage’s writing is spectacular\, with rich dialogue and descriptions\, a vibrant depiction of the burden of duty versus personal freedom\, and unique insights into royal life.’  Booklist\, starred review \n\n\n‘For everyone wondering who’s going to be the next big thing on the Australian literary scene\, I have the answer: it’s Rebecca Armitage. The Heir Apparent  is one of the best books I’ve read all year.’ Natasha Lester\, New York Times bestselling author of The Mademoiselle Alliance \n\n\n‘A fabulous novel\, juicy and irresistible’. Pip Drysdale\, bestselling author of The Close Up \n\n\n‘Completely addictive! I was up until the wee hours finishing this fantastic book. It’s Hello! mag meets Sally Hepworth and I was utterly transported by the evocative\, clever storytelling. Five stars!!’ \nElla Ward\,  The Cicada House \n\n\nAbout the Author: \n\n\nRebecca Armitage is an author and journalist. \nAs a journalist\, she has written stories about the death of Queen Elizabeth II\, the coronation of King Charles III\, the exile of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan\, and the abdication of Denmark’s Queen Margrethe. \nAs digital editor for the ABC’s International news team\, she has covered several US elections and travelled to Israel to cover the war in Gaza. \nShe lives in Hobart\, Tasmania\, with her husband and a poorly behaved German Shorthaired Pointer named Chino. SUMMARY:In the Company of Small Things
DESCRIPTION:New exhibitions invite audiences to slow down and look closer at Buda \nBuda Historic Home and Garden invites visitors to pause\, look closely and rediscover the beauty of detail with In the Company of Small Things — a series of intimate exhibitions and installations that celebrate observation\, craft and quiet wonder. \nFeaturing new works by local artists Dianne Longley and Clayton Tremlett\, the project re-imagines Buda’s historic house and garden through contemporary eyes\, revealing fresh stories hidden within familiar spaces. \nMaster printmaker Dianne Longley\, based in Trentham\, is renowned for her complex\, carefully balanced compositions that weave together cultural histories and diverse artistic techniques. Her intricately designed works unfold from a house exhibition grounded in Buda’s architecture and collection\, then extend gently into the garden itself. Two accompanying workshops will invite families and community members to draw inspiration from Longley’s practice and create their own thoughtful interpretations. \nCastlemaine printmaker and painter Clayton Tremlett brings a bold and playful energy to the historic Garden Pavilion. Known for his deeply researched practice and distinctive linocut portraiture\, Tremlett re-imagines old family portraits in vivid colour. His work — spanning wallpapers\, artist’s books\, collector cards and editioned prints — offers a contemporary lens on Australian history. A hands-on workshop will give participants the chance to create their own historically referenced works. \nAlongside the artists’ installations\, Buda’s Curators will unveil unexpected treasures from the site’s collection. Nineteenth-century botanical specimens\, nature studies\, sketchbooks and delicately crafted\, flora-inspired objects made by the Leviny family will form a series of small but powerful encounters. These will be experienced through exhibitions\, interpretive garden panels\, treasure hunts and nature journaling workshops. \nTogether\, the project honours the craft\, care and attention to detail that define both Buda and the distinct practices of each artist. Each work gently asks what we overlook in everyday life — and how wonder so often hides in plain sight. \nIn the Company of Small Things is a quiet act of reverence: for history\, for creative spirit\, and for the tiny gestures that connect us to place\, past and imagination. \n[vc_row][vc_column width=’1/3′][/vc_column][vc_column width=’2/3′] \nExhibition launch\nWine and Cheese\nHear from the Artists\nPreview the exhibition\nThursday March 19 @6pm\nPlease RSVP here\n[/vc_column][/vc_row]
