SUMMARY:Mother's Day High Tea
DESCRIPTION:Mother’s Day High Tea and special afternoon of music\n  \nFeaturing Blue Tango – Unique arrangements of Jazz flavoured classic pop songs\n  \n‘ Why don’t we take a little piece of summer sky\,hang it in a tree For that’s the way to start to make a pretty world for you and for me’\n\n\nOur High Tea includes\n\nSparkling wine on arrival\nHigh tea\, savouries and sweets served to your table\nLeaf tea and brewed coffee\nOptional guided tour of the house and garden\n\n  \n$45 ADULT $42 CONC\n$40 FRIENDS OF BUDA\n\n  \n\n[vc_video link=’http://www.youtube.com/v/u-qpeIrTFYY’] Blue Tango is Lynne Gough (vocals and percussion) and Dave Richard (vocals and guitar). No other sounds (they minimalist vulnerability!). Their name comes from the million-selling instrumental hit of 1952. It was a tango in blues form played by a classical orchestra– a great example of the rich mixture typical of great pop music. So Blue Tango points to their love of jazzy popular music. They see ourselves as part of the current ‘retro chic’ phenomenon which includes Diana Krall\, Harry Connick Jr\, Norah Jones\, Michael Buble and the huge success of the Rod Stewart Great American Songbook series of CDs. They produce interesting\, original guitar/vocal arrangements of classic pop songs. \nBOOK NOW

SUMMARY:Pursuits of Passion and Principle
DESCRIPTION:Buda Exhibition during the Castlemaine State Festival and beyond\nAustralian Arts & Crafts Jewellery and Decorative Arts\nfrom public and private collections\nThis year Buda is presenting a special exhibition of Australian Arts and Crafts jewellery and decorative arts ‘Pursuits of Passion and Principle’  to complement the existing collection of original artworks and ornamental pieces in the house and garden belonging to the Leviny family. \nThe Arts and Crafts Movement\, begun by William Morris in Britain in the mid-1800s\, greatly influenced the Leviny daughters who lived at Buda. Their passion to decorate the family home with items both ‘beautiful and useful’ is still a feature of the house interior today. \nThis Victorian-style ‘gentleman’s villa’ house with its impressive 1.2 hectare (3 acre) garden\, was owned by Hungarian goldsmith and jeweller\, Ernest Leviny. In the early 1900s the interior of the home was transformed by his daughters\, who infused their great passion for the British Arts and Crafts Movement (influenced by William Morris and his followers) on the internal fittings and décor throughout the house. Many of the Leviny daughters’ original handcrafted items are still a feature of the house interior today. \nOf further interest is the remnant collection of silvermithing items and jewellery designs created by Ernest Leviny\, along with a number of original Australian artworks\, decorative objects and handcrafts collected by the Leviny during their lives. Buda is on the registers of the National Estate and Heritage Victoria\, and is also an Accredited Museum. \nCastlemaine State Festival 23-31 March 2019 \nPursuits of Passion and Principal 23 March – 19 May \n\nDeer Enamelwork Box \n \nBrooch by Rhoda Wager \n  \n\n \nHere is a taste of what is on offer by our curator.\n[vc_video link=’https://youtu.be/G_7rwFPLfXc’] \n\n
